Amazing that he was still writing at 87. Published a couple of works in 2012, and according to fantastic Fiction working on another to be published in 2014. What a guy Sad that he is dead, but what a productive life fiction-wise. Helen |

Even if you haven't read one of his books you've undoubtedly seen a movie or TV show based on one of them.

Mr. Majestyk was the first non-western of his I read. And the movie followed the book better than most have. Apache |

He was passed the hard-boiled genre from his predecessors and he adapted it and made it his own. Who has the torch passed on to? He entertained me for years and I will sorely miss his wit and cast of characters. Perhaps like the estate of Robert B. Parker an author(s) might be found to expand Elmores universe. Here's hoping. |

What I like about his works is that unlike so many books, movies, tv shows, he never worried about cultural correctness.

Interesting fact: he had his first bestseller at age 60. Rest in peace, Mr. Leonard. You will be missed, but your books will live on. |

Huh! I've read some of his Westerns recently, and they were written in or before the early 1970's (i.e. over 40 years ago). They were well known, but I guess they never hit the bestseller mark. I'm mildly surprized to hear that.

Another memoir of his days as a copyrighter: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blog...opywriter.html I'm a bit hesitant to admit it but I don't think I've read any of his work as it is outside my 'normal' tbr mountain. What's your top recommendation either (preferably) stories or novels. |

Thanks Apache, I trust your judgment and have certainly heard of both of those. I ran across the Trio of his novels including Get Shorty....I think I'll grab it. http://www.amazon.com/Elmore-Leonard...Elmore+Leonard Well after reading the Intro to "Tishomingo Blues" at Amazon and rolling around on the floor laughing for a bit....I pressed the Buy Button.
