Greetings!

hello, just introducing myself to the forum; a new member since signing up yesterday, and i look forward to hopefully being active here; i'll likely browse the forum threads for a while just to get the feel of the place, but i figured i'd break the ice with a short 'intro': i've been a long-time reader, largely fiction, but occasionally non-fiction as well ... i have been reading electronic texts now since late 2000 when i was living overseas and had limited access to English language books, and when a friend of mine gave me a CD with a few hundred .txt/Word formatted books. it was a great 'gift' and i made use of it via reading on my laptop; the first book i read from that CD (and the first book i read in digital format) was 'Fight Club' by Chuck Palahniuk; but reading via a laptop isn't exactly ideal, and so when i returned to the USA a couple/few years later, i picked up a Sony Clie, which i used for the next several years until the battery finally wouldn't hold a charge (and i couldn't find a replacement), at which point i returned to reading traditional books, until i received as a gift an Apple iPod Touch, which device i am still using today, although i do admit that i find the screen size not exactly ideal, and more so every year ... my failing eyes it seems

i have pondered a dedicated reader for a few years now, but find myself still undecided as to what would fit me in terms of needs and my philosophy, although in truth i'd probably enjoy just about any reader

as for ebooks vs. the traditional format, i quite enjoy both, but i prefer the ease and convenience of reading via a digital device; i have created a number of ebooks from scratch (scan/ocr/edit/format/html/epub), mostly older books that i was not otherwise able to find for sale in digital format, and while my goals were to do such for a great many other books, the process is vastly time-consuming; i get most of my books from gutenberg, a great great site as you all probably know

thank you for letting me ramble
