Too large for an iOS device, I would agree with that. I'd rather have something like the Lenovo Yoga in that size. I'm sure there's some market for it though.

They're probably working on such a device to be prepared if larger format tablets from their competitors become all of the rage. After all, the market for tablets is rapidly evolving. Think of it this way: the first tablet with mass market appeal, the iPad, was released about 3.5 years ago and even then it had a slow start. If Apple took 6 months to respond to a competitors product, you're talking about being behind the trends by about 25% of the history of modern tablets.

Will large format tablets become popular? I think that they may. It is entirely possible that iOS and Android will replace OS X and Windows for most consumers. It is unlikely that they will do so in the office users and for demanding home users, but even those users will likely use iOS and Android devices in addition to traditional computers. If that is the case, it helps to have a broad enough range of products to fill the various market niches.

I think that these large tablets (12" and beyond) are a niche market, for most people even 10" is too large and the 7-8" range seem to be the sweet spot. Maybe 12"+ will have a place in the business sector, but I hardly see them hitting it with consumers, we're seeing a shift towards smaller tablets already.

I already did that with my iPad Mini at a hotel a month back. It hurt so, so, so, so, so much.

Fell off the coffee table and the corner went straight into my bare foot.

I would LOVE a 13" iPad! Would be easier to work in a DAW and more space to draw in.

I like the idea but weight can't be much more than the current iPad. I think they could get much of this from an almost-no-bezel design but I'm still hoping for front-facing speaker(s) some day and that needs a bezel.
