Kindle Touch will not hard reboot

I have a 1 year old kindle touch that is freezing and will not reboot. What I have been doing lately is letting the battery die, then charge it. After a short while the screen freezes and I have to repeat the same steps. Yes, I have held the power button (for well over a minute), I have held the power and home button down, and I have just held the home button down. Any other course of action, besides junking it?

I'd suggest doing a Factory Reset from the menu.

Interesting answer! If it won't boot up, how is he/she supposed to get to the menu to go into settings??

Try pluging it in to charge, and then try to power it up by holding start in for up to a minute to boot it up, the go to settings, factory reset. If that doesn't work, there is a thread here somewhere that has a fix for boot problems, maybe in the developer discussions.

The original poster does not say that it won't boot, but that it won't REboot. I inferred from that (perhaps wrongly) that it boots following a battery charge, but will not reboot when the power switch is held in.
