Gutenberg Consortia Center???
Has anybody heard of this?

I was surfing tio see what Will Murray completion Doc Savages had been made available in the last few months (in ebook, of course) when I ran across this.

Which was a 1933 Doc adventure - The Thousand Headed Man.

Now that is under Conde Nast's control, but....

What is this???

I wondered what had happened with those ebooks. Conde Nast seems to claim just about anything that isn't nailed down including most (if not all) Old Time Radio programs. Of course they will sell them to you a few at a time for X many bucks. I'm surprised the books are up at the Consortium even as HTML files. I remember yrs ago Black Mask (Munsey) had them and many other texts for sale and then Conde Nast happened to them.

I looked a few hours ago. All but two of the doc Savage were marked as removed as well as all of the Shadow files. But those genies left their lamps a long time ago and are available in all the dark corners.

Their "main page appears <HERE>. They seem to be owned by, or affiliated with, Project Gutenberg.

From the main page you can also access their "About Us" page and their "Mission Statement" page.

If nothing else, they look legit. They state specifically that they currently intend to adhere to US copyright law, which would explain the presence of many Doc Savage ebooks. They say that "Life +50" and "Life +70" sites are planned.

Actually, it doesn't explain the Docs, unless Conde' Nast decided to allow one to be posted as an advertisement. All Docs are still under US Copyright...

(Some - 159 to be exact, are PD in Life + 50.)

The Consortia Center is a licensee of the trademark. It's managed by a different team than the main Project Gutenberg. If I am remembering correctly the goal of the Consortia Center was to collect public domain texts from elsewhere on the web and curate them together. I don't know what their policies are, or how they intend to limit the texts posted to PD.
