Retailers are Expecting Shipments of the New Nexus 7 Next Week

Couple this leak with Google's press event scheduled for 24 Jul and it definitely looks like the next gen Nexus 7 is finally here.

Those are some solid specs, and the 320dpi should make for a great reading device. This will be the best 7" tablet in the market for some time, especially at this price point. Samsung, your newly released Tab 7 and 8 have been handed their a**es on a silver plate. Ipad mini, well, it was never in contention to start with.

The thing i'm interested is battery life and weight. Amazon is rumored to be releasing a 1080p tablet this quarter. With Barnes and Noble bowing out, it looks like its only google and amazon pushing screen tech on smaller tablets.

It doesn't seem that Samsung is even trying to compete.The Galaxy Tab 3 has a microsd slot, but so does the hisense pro and the upcoming newest generation of the asus memopad, both of which have are 50$ cheaper with 720p screens.

If the leaks are to be believed, the weight is 11 oz (=312 g), so only a few grammes more than the iPad mini.

9 hours for battery life is what I have read but I forget where to tell the truth. If I find that again in my travels, I will link. Of course real world use and specific activities done varies one's mileage.

11.2 ounces, lighter than the previous gen nexus. Still don't know about the battery life though. I know the ipad mini bigger, but the fact that google managed to make a lightweight device with a 1080p screen makes me the doubt the claims that Apple can't make a lightweight mini with a retina screen.

And they managed all that with a smaller battery -- 3950mAh vs 4325mAh for the 1st gen.

Edit: Apparently it does. I don't any Android Devices(kindle fire hd not counting of course) with android 4.0+.

Hmm, that makes me wonder how much life it would get with a bigger battery. How much weight is that smaller battery really saving?
