Need help "authenticating" DX

I recently bought a Kindle DX from ebay, for very cheap. The seller didn't seem to know what generation Kindle it was, because they said it was either a first or second generation. The picture included leads me to believe it was a DX, however, but I wanted another person's opinion, just to be sure. I know I'll find out when it arrives, but that won't be for several days yet, and I was feeling impatient. The picture I've included in the post, is the picture that the seller included with the listing.

Thanks for letting me know. I was pretty sure that it was one, but I've never seen one in person so I wasn't 100% certain.

As I recall, the first generation DX only came in a white bezel. You'll find pics of all models at the Kindle Wikipedia page.

So it's the second generation DX from what the wikipedia page says.

You now need (or should, rather) go in and register the DX-G.

If you get a message that it was stolen, then you should ask for your money back.

Hopefully, that is not the case; that is, you simply register it and it's on your account.

If you registered it without incident, then please ignore this post.

Additional information:

Be very careful if you got a hinge type cover from Amazon in that ebay deal. Those clips that connect to the Kindle have been reported to cause cracks in the plastic.

An original case with dangerous clips came with mine, so I've decided to retire that case and try to find something different to protect my DX-G.

Also, I'll need a new battery (as my charge doesn't appear to last more than a couple of days), and you too may need a new battery as well.

I haven't received it yet, but I will definitely check to see if it registers when it arrives.

Thanks for letting me know about the case. I had thought about getting the "official" case, but now that I know it can cause issues, I'll be sure to avoid it.

The problem is with two cases from Amazon wherein one clip slips into the lower hole in the Kindle, and then the upper clip slides down with the push of a finger and then slips into the upper hole, supposedly securing the Kindle.

Check out the negatives (one-star ratings) for a whole host of disgruntled, angry, and disappointed customers when they found out that their cases had developed stress cracks.

The first generation of official covers had that problem, they fixed it later. I still have one of the problem free covers. Read up on it extensively before I got it.

I have the first cover, which is now selling for a ridiculous price of slightly over $8, probably because it's so dangerous. (This is the cover with the Kindle name on the front, on a piece of metal.)

However, in checking out the second cover - but which also has clips, apparently made of a stronger material - the were still reported problems from some of the owners.

BUT - I'm certainly glad you're having no problems.

For myself, I'm going to buy a non-Amazon cover that allows the Kindle's corners to be secured, rather than using any kind of clip that attaches to the side of the Reader.

Too, I thoroughly enjoy holding my Kindle without a cover, but I do need to get it protected for those many occasions when I need to have it protected.

Be careful buying some stuff on eBay. People often steal other people's pictures and put it in their listing. You are not guaranteed of getting what's pictured. If the seller didn't know what they were selling you may not be getting the Kindle you think you're getting.

You've been warned.

I hope you get what was advertised and what you want but I've seen it happen too many times where they put up a picture of something but what you receive is not what was pictured.

I knew there was a certain amount of risk when I bought it, but the price was such that even if it were another model kindle, I wouldn't be spending too much. Plus, if the item is not the one pictured, than I should be covered under eBay Buyer Protection, which states that it, "protects you in cases where an item is not received or is not as described in the listing." Thanks for the warning, though. Hopefully, I'll be getting the item I wanted.

Don't be fooled by eBay speak. You are covered BUT you have to ship it back to the seller with proof of delivery which means tracking and sometimes a signature depending on the amount. On your dime.
