Arrow beginner wants help with html not opening on notepad

[II am just a beginner so I hope people will be patient with me, I have got my book file, and having created it on openoffice, have converted to html using "save as"

I am trying to follow the sigil use guide from the start, and I found that my html file wont open correctly on notepad. It opens as a lot of gibberish. I have never before come across html files that wont open in notepad. I had assumed they all did. I am on windows 7, which I am new to, so maybe someone can tell me if I would be better off [not have this problem] if I used windows vista and an older version of openoffice.

Please does anyone know about openoffice-created html files that look fine for reading purposes but open on notepad as gibberish?

I do not think your save as worked... Html is a regular text file and should open as such.

You most likely simply saved your document with an .htm(l) extension, but didn't change the output format in the dropdown list to "HTML Document (Writer) .html .html." Try resaving it with the correct output format.

BTW, if everything else fails, you could simply press CTRL+A, CTL+C in Writer and CTRL+V in Sigil to paste the text in Book View mode into the empty default document that Sigil creates. (You'll lose most formatting, though.)
