Welcome to MobileRead, ChuckM!
![]() ![]() I think you'd have to ask Sony that question to get a real answer, and they've been pretty mum on future plans so far. ![]() I can tell you that they've made generic comments about being open to supporting other formats, but that the rumors have it that Amazon.com (which now owns Mobipoket) has been less than eager to allow mobi support on devices that support other DRMed formats. In any case, it's not just Sony that has a say on that particular question. One other unrelated trifle which you may not be aware of: all caps is generally regarded as equivalent to yelling in the on-line world, so please, unless you mean to shout, release your caps lock key. ![]() |

HI ChuckM AND WELCOME, er, welcome to the Forum. Hope you're right about Mobipocket but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I've noticed that many vendors are currently "out of stock" on the PRS-505, including the SonyStyle page. Since this is often a precursor to a new product launch or significant upgrade, has anyone heard anything on the rumor mill (other than the firmware update)?
Kind regards, Marinerrr |

Welcome to MobileRead, Marinerrr!
![]() All the device vendors are out of stock off and on lately, they're not all bringing out new models, in fact three of them only launched their current models within the last five months. The PRS-505 was launched in October of '07 -- I wouldn't look for a new model before October '08 (at the very earliest), and that's only if they decide that they've come up with enough new tricks to warrant a new model that quickly. The reason that these things are so hard to get is that the display panels are all made by a single company, PVI, and PVI has been having trouble keeping up with demand for them. There's really not anything more to it than that. ![]() |

Thanks for the update NatCh. My order is pending and I was concerned that I was already buying an outdated model. (Apple often dries up their supply chain prior to releasing new models, and that what this shortage looked like to me).
