Cover image — distressed or not?

Which of these works "better"? It's designed to look like a 1980s punk record cover (I have permission from the band in question). The story is set 30 years from now.

I prefer the distressed version (on the left) - just my opinion though.

Distressed works better for me, too.

Ditto (I like the distressed better - it looks less cheesy).

Yeah, of the two the one on the left looks better in this case.

I'll make it unanimous so far. I much prefer the distressed version.

Distressed, without a doubt. You've made Maggie entirely too attractive though.

No preference. Both look like they'd fit the title.

The resemblence to Margaret Thatcher raises a red flag in my mind.

I hadn't noticed it until reading another poster's comment. The resemblance is striking, and the association is reinforced by the reference to a nursing home surrounding the image. Regardless of her politics, in view of the tragic denouement at the end of her life, I think you risk alienating some readers with this cover image.

Alyssa, I am pretty certain the resemblance is intended to be striking*. (Search for threads on this subforum started by Mr Ploppy to see some of the novels involved - I am presuming from the image that this for one is along the same lines.) Of course your warning is quite correct, but it is doubtful that those alienated are a likely audience. * I'm sure Mr Ploppy will correct me on the very slight chance I am mistaken. |

It would be funny if right-wingers somehow stumbled into reading it, but I can't really see that happening unless they go out of their way to get offended just so they can have a fit about it. Even if they got past the cover they wouldn't get any further than the introduction Andy T wrote for it.
