Write to screen from shell?

Does anyone know if there is any utility included that can write to the screen from a shell? In kindles there's eips, so I think there should be a similar tool.

You can actually write a simple QT application, controlled from the command line.
Where do you want to use it for?

Well, at least I've solved this one: in /etc/init.d/on-animator.sh it uses

Code:

while true; do
        i=$((((i + 1)) % 11));
        zcat /etc/images/$PREFIX\on-$i.raw.gz | /usr/local/Kobo/pickel showpic 1;
        usleep 250000;
done

so pickel is the key
