Crash when accessing .rar file

First of all let me in advance excuse myself if I've posted this thread in the wrong place.

Problem: I am trying to add a .rar file where I've put all my ebook files. When trying to do so the software crashes.

Additional information: The .rar file is _very_ big. The file is on a NAS and is thus accessed over my network.

Question: Is this a known problem and if so - what do I do to fix it?

You can't add a rar file, containing several books, to the calibre library. Calibre can, under some circumstances, add compressed files containing a single book. Indeed many book formats are just this, a compressed archive containing a single book.

Extract the books from the rar file and add them as separate files.

Also, please note that all the books you add to calibre will be copied and renamed and stored in the calibre library. So there has to be sufficient room on the disk where the calibre library is stored, for all the books.
