I'm using Calibre and want to rename books I downloaded form Project Gutenberg.
I downloaded all 14 Wizard of Oz books. Using a page in Wikipedia, I was able to determine the order of the books. In Calibre, I edited the metadata and renamed the title and title sort to "Book 1 -title of Oz book, Book 2, title of Oz book, etc." So, in Calibre, simply by looking, I know that "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book because I renamed it "Book 4 Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz." However, when I send these books via Calibre to my Kindle, some of the titles are not translating. For instance, "Book 1 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" still reads "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." No change. So now I have some titles which are numbered and other titles that are simply the original title. It's confusing because I want to look at the Kindle directory and know by the title which book is the first second, third, etc. Does anyone know what else I can do to correct this? (I'm using Calibre 0.9.15 and a Kindle Keyboard) |

Then using Polish Books, update the metadata of all the books and you will be good to go. What you have done is add the metadata to the database, but the books still contain the incorrect metadata and the metadata from the books is what your Reader is reading. |

See here:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=205857 You can also do what you do by doing a like to like (eg mobi to mobi or epub to epub) conversion of the books you want to update. Converting to the same format updates the metadata in the book file. |

Upgrade to the latest version of Calibre. Yours is a bit behind.
Once you have upgraded, select all of the OZ books and right click on them. Then select (from the menu) Polish Books. Then from the dialog, check "Update metadata in the book files". Then click OK and Calibre will update the metadata in your books. Next, delete all of the books from your Reader and add them all back on using the newly updated copies. |

Well, I've updated and do not see the Polish books option anywhere. I'm running PCLinuxOS (Linux). My Linux system is fully updated.

I'm doing a Mobi to Mobi conversion and that seems to be working.

I'm glad you got it working, but may I suggest that there's a better way to do it.
First, use the fields in Calibre as they were intended. Store only the title in the title column, and the series info in the series column. Trust me, any time I've tried to work around Calibre's way of doing things, it's always come back to bite me eventually. Second, use a plugboard to change the metadata on the fly as you send it to your device. Set up your plugboard template once and never worry about it again, instead of messing with mobi-to-mobi conversions on books you add in the future. Admittedly, I can't help you with setting up a plugboard template because I don't use plugboards myself, but there are plenty of capable members on this forum that do. I just know that this feature is designed specifically to do exactly what you're asking. By the way, to get started with plugboards, see here. Last edited by fidvo; 06-27-2013 at 11:40 AM. |

Yes! Doing the Mobi to Mobi conversion wrote the new MetaData info to the books.
![]() ![]() Again, still don't see the polish books option. I see that in the lower right, it says anew upgrade to 0.9.36 is available, but Caibre upgrade tells me I've got the latest. Perhaps polsih books is not in 0.9.35 for Linux? |

Perhaps try going to Preferences-->Toolbar-->Main Toolbar and then see if Polish Books is listed as something you can add to your toolbar?

Preferences:toolbars You should add in at least 2 places: 1)A toolbar (not connected) 2)Context Menu (not connected) You can add any other place that is valid, but the above is where a New User would see them by default. |
