Title and title_sorting
There is a title_sorting field?
I am a new user and really like the fields "author" and "author_sorting". With these two fields can I save on disk in a way (author - title) and send to kindle another way (author_sorting - title). For example Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol.mobi -> saved to disk Brown, Dan - The Lost Symbol.mobi -> on kindle That way the Kindle organizes the authors the way I like, and Dan Brown would be in category D and not B. But in the title field exists the problem. I can not save to the disk one way and send to kindle in another way. Therefore the title of the book on the kindle would be the category L (Lost Symbol, The) and I would like him to be in the category T (The Lost Symbol). Is there any field title_sorting in Calibre? Thanks in advance. ![]() |

set the tweak>Control formatting of title and series when used in templates (ID: save_template_title_series_sorting) to strictly alphabetic and see if that helps

Thanks for the replies and sorry for my english
![]() @theducks I'll check the option "plugboards metadata" in Calibre and see what I can do. @speakingtohe / Helen I've made this change in Calibre Tweaks, and yet there is a reversal of the title names in kindle, like this: Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol -> Calibre and the disk So I send the same file to the kindle (ctrl+c/ctrl+v or Calibre), and it looks like this: Brown, Dan - Lost Symbol, The -> kindle title's sort After searching in the forum for a few posts, I believe to be a problem in the organization of the Kindle, not in Calibre. |

I don't have a Kindle, so I don't know if this will work.
![]() In Edit Metadata, change the languge to Spanish. In Spanish, the articles (a, an, the) are not recognized. Maybe you can fool your Kindle into thinking that "The Lost Symbol" is in Spanish and it won't change the title. Again ... this is just a wild guess! ![]() Last edited by MartyTX; 06-22-2013 at 12:19 PM. Reason: Correction |

@MartyTX
I changed the language of some books into Spanish and actually WORKS! The books were arranged in alphabetical order on Kindle, considering the book "The Lost Symbol" in the category of T, and not in L. BUT, there was a problem with the dictionary. I live in Brazil and how the book is in Spanish, Portuguese dictionary doesn't work ![]() With the field "author_sorting" and "authors" I can save on my HD in format {authors} - {title} Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol and send to Kindle (by Calibre) as {author_sorting} - {title} Brown, Dan - The Lost Symbol That way the author field appears on the Kindle in category D, but the title remains in the category L, and not in the letter T as I would like. This happens even if I changed the tweak's options in Calibre as 'library_order' or 'strictly_alphabetic'. I already have the author field alphabetically organized and for me is already very good. Anyway, thanks for everyone's help! ![]() |

You've looked at the tweak title_series_sorting, but have you taken a look at:
The tweaks in red are concerned with the articles of speech within titles, designating for calibre which words are to be ignored on a per language basis, when sorting. Here is the link to the Tweak's section of the Calibre Manual, these are discussed halfway down the page. Reset calibre to your correct language (if you haven't already done so). Then delete the words listed. After that calibre should treat these words normally. Sorting The Lost Symbol under T regardless of the language setting and the fact that it is an article of speech. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the Kindle will handle the title as you want. The Kindle's operating system may also have an "ignore articles of speech in titles" - but one which is permanently set and will always override your wishes. If, after trying the above, you're still having trouble with this issue, you might try in the Calibre/Devices forum or the general (non-calibre) Kindle forum (if their is one) to find out if other Kindle users' books are forced to ignore articles of speech. @Sabardeyn
I have a kobo glo too, and the same thing happens. I changed the settings that you gave me, excludes languages in these fields, changed the variables in those languages (articles), put None in some fields, moved to 'strictly_alphabetic' or 'library_order' and the problem persists. You are right to say that the problem is not the 'title' or 'title_sorting'. Seems like kindle/kobo ignore the article and always shows title sorting in library as: name1 name2, article ![]() |

On my Nook ST:
Looking at sideloaded content, the actual ePub files on the SD card are named and sorted: Angels & Demons - Dan Brown.epub Da Vinci Code, The - Dan Brown.epub Deception Point - Dan Brown.epub Lost Symbol, The - Dan Brown.epub However, on the Nook's Library display screen the sort is: Angels & Demons Deception Point The Da Vinci Code The Lost Symbol I'd like the Library to display: name1, name2, article. Maybe I'll buy a Kobo after my Nook dies! ![]() |

Finally WORKS! But only on Kindle
![]() I tried various combinations and none worked in both devices. But this last I kept the data in "Set the list of words considered to be "articles" for sort strings" as follows per_language_title_sort_articles = {'ron': ('Un\\s+', 'O\\s+', 'Ni\xc5\x9fte\\s+'), 'tur': ('Bir\\s+',), 'por': ('Q\\s+', 'Q\\s+', 'Qs\\s+', 'Qs\\s+', 'Qm\\s+', 'Qns\\s+', 'Qma\\s+', 'Qmas\\s+')....... default_language_for_title_sort = None title_sort_articles = '^(Q|Qhe|Qn)\\s+' Replacing manually all the 'A' by 'Q' in 'por' language and also in title_sort_articles. That way I could "force" the kindle to sort titles including articles initials. That way I didn't need to change the "title's tweak" to 'strictly_alphabetic'. Everything is ok now. Either to send to kindle as to save on disk, the file structure it stays the same: {Author} FN LN - {Title} Article Name1 Name2 Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol again, thanks guys for all atention. Best regards. |

Tiburscyo,
So, if I'm understanding your post correctly, all that you did was change the Portuguese (lang code: por or pt) language articles of speech to the Brazilian Portuguese (lang code: pt-br) equivalent? Sorry if the question seems obvious. Just making sure I understand why you made the change since this might be of use as a permanent addition to calibre's article of speech tweak. |

@Sabardeyn
In fact, the problem persists. I made several changes to settings and I forgot that the books were configured for the Spanish language. In this way they were arranged alphabetically in kindle/kobo. But the dictionary does not work (Portuguese). So I changed the book's language to Portuguese again, the dictionary worked but the kindle/kobo ignored the articles in 'title's sort' and everything went back to how it was before. ![]() Only the authors are listed alphabetically, sorted in kindle/kobo as FN LN, although they appear in Calibre as LN, FN |
