PC to Kobo DRM content (help needed)
I just bought my first ebook from Amazon. I downloaded the Kindle application and all went well. I now have the file in the kindle folder but cannot figure out how to get it into my Kobo Ereader. I thought it would be a simple matter of importing it into Calibre and the uploading to my Kobo but Calibre tells me that the book is protected by DRM whatever that is. Can anyone help out here or point me to a tutorial etc on how I can get this book into my Kobo in a readable format. Thanks in advance.

The only DRM the Kobo devices understand is Kobo's own in kepubs and Adobe DRM for ePubs and PDF. Other types need to be DRM free. Discussing the removal of DRM is not allowed on MobileRead. But, telling you to search google for Apprentice Alf for help is.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...f_=mas_rp_link Then you can buy your book from Kobo or most other stores and read it happily on your device (which is a Kobo reader I presume). As others have said already, Amazon have their own protection on books which means that any book bought on amazon can only be read either on a Kindle or on a computer using the kindle reading application. Other bookshops sell electronic books with a different type of protection which is managed by Adobe and which makes these books readable on many many devices (Kobo and Sony for the largest brands). As davidfor said, removing the protection is possible and not too hard, but is illegal in most countries, and for this reason is not discussed on Mobileread (although I should add that to my knowledge many people "clean" their legally purchased books to make sure they have a backup). |
