To add any hacks to your iliad, you will first need to turn it into a developer iliad, that is enable shell access.
You can request it here: https://myirex.irexnet.com/user.php/developer after the next software download, your iliad will allow you to execute shell scripts. HOWEVER, be aware as this page tells you it will come with dangers. That is software-destroying your device. Unfortunally once you or any broken application you install renders your device unbootable, there is no way to repair it again, but have to send it in (and pay for that). There isn't a feature like a PC where you can insert a recovery CD and whola, it works again and you just lost your data. (Hint: at iRex PLEASE add something like that! ![]() |

The developer package includes a feature to reflash the iLiad from a CF card in order to restore it. So, that's basically the same thing as a recovery CD, but it wipes all of your data (more like re-installing the OS).
I think there are still a few rare situations where the reflash won't work and you need to ship it back to iRex, but in most cases the reflash should get you out of trouble if you manage to mess something up. The reflash image to put on the CF card and instructions for the procedure are on iRex's website somewhere, but I don't have a link handy. |

Shaggy, ah yes I see this thread, but it means I need *first* to prepare my iliad so it can be reflashed later, right?

I think installing the developer package automatically prepares the iLiad so that you can reflash it later. I think iRex started doing it that way as of software version 2.11

You don't need to do anything special with the iLiad, but you need to have a CF card prepared. This is fine if you've got a separate card reader, otherwise, you need to have done it through your iLiad before you do anything that might brick it.
