What should I take?

Hey there!
I have seen somewhere interesting video about E-Readers and despite of having iPad I have decided to buy one. However I don't really know which one should I take. Price doesn't really matter.
Most books I am reading are chemical and historical. They have a lot of pages, so for me - commonly traveling - taking even four of them is a problem. I would like to buy Reader which would allow me not only to buy via its internet shop (or however it works - if you could explain I would be happy) but also import books from all possible known formats (like .pdf, .pages, .doc etc.). What's more It ought to be just E-Book Reader, not a tablet - as I told i have an iPad. The simpliest thing to read books. What else... I have seen one guy with Reader which screen looked like the text was written on paper, not on device. Is ir standard of all Readers? If not I would my future bought to have something like this.
At the end I can say I was thinking on buying a Kindle Fire 5 - what do you think about it? Does it connect with Mac OS X? Has it things I wrote above?

You wont get any ereader that imports pages documents, so if that is a requirement, you can stop right there. Pages is the only application that reads docs created by itself. You'd need to convert them to another format in order to use them on an ebook reader.

Kindle will only read Kindle format (oh... and PDF, apparently... but I would not bother reading PDF on an e-ink screen... I stick to Goodreader on my iPad)

Kobo will read its own epub format but also will read other epub formats as well.

PC and Mac compatible Yes
I dont know about the others, but if you check the respective websites, you can easily find out.

The thing is, you are not going to get all your requirements in one ebook reader (oh BTW the paper-like look is called e-ink and KIndle, sony, kobo all use that. Kindle fire is an Amazon Android tablet)...

I'm sure you'll get a lot of strong opinions on this. I decided to acquire my first ebook reader a few weeks ago - prior to that I was doing my reading on first an iPad 3 then a Nexus 7. I bought the Paperwhite, and while I love the form-factor since I can easily one-hand it, and the grippy feel of the back, the screen was horribly uneven. From what I've read, this is typical. Ordered the Kobo Aura, received it yesterday, and I absolutely love it. The lighting is perfect, and the text is significantly sharper and clearer than the Paperwhite. The only downside is that it isn't easy to one-hand it, at least with my smallish hands.

I have a Kobo Glo and love it (the light function is extremely useful), but reading PDF's on it doesn't work for me. A friend has a Sony PRS-T1 and the PDF reflows just as an epub would, which is a lot better than how it works on the Kobo for me.

Of course, I still prefer the Kobo Glo (because of the light) and just decided not to download any pdf's (or if I really need them, I use Calibre to transform them to epubs).

If you are interested in PDF, ONYX I62 or the big M92 (9.7 ") make the job. With the M92 you have a stylus to annotate the PDF. There is good options to zoom in the file and work with multicolumns document.

You could compare with Pocketbook for the big screen.

A Kindle Fire is a tablet, not an e-ink reader. By the way, it isn't called a Kindle Fire 5. There is no number, unless you count the screen size. You can install applications to read pdf and .doc formats, if you want. But the screen is still going to be like a computer screen.

You can get and root a Nook Single Touch, which will allow you to install a reader program for whatever format you want to read. You do have to root it, but there's programs that can do that for you. I've root my Nook HD+ Tablet and it was easy. I think the Nook has text reflow for PDFs - can anyone confirm that?

Even better, they're on sale today for $50 from Best Buy. I'm jumping on that since I've been thinking of getting one for months.
