Question multiple files same name

I'm attemting my first epub. I have all the html files I need. Problem is that the image files for each "chapter" have the same name. Since they are in different folders this did not present a problem. Is there a way to save image files in different folders or do I have to rename them?

Thanks,
silvia

Sigil uses 1 folder for each file catagory (Text, Images,Styles,Misc...)
The names WITH extensions need to be Unique. cover.jpg and cover.jpeg are OK, but I would avoid this subtle distinction.
Wyn not name the Image by Location used Img01-01.jpg (first image in chapter 1)

I was afraid of that. The files I have were generated a while back with a gallery generator and I have a separate folder for each "page". I want to make a chapter out of each folder. I'll have to rename the files, links, etc. in every folder. Your suggestion for naming is a good one.

Thanks.

You can load each folder (file) into sigil individually. Once there, select all the images and right lick then select "rename". This allows you to define a template to rename all the images you selected. Eg: img01-01.jpg. Sigil will automatically increment the last number AND update the links in your HTML file...img01-02.jpg., img01-03.jpg. Etc. then save the files back to the hard drive - I recommend a different folder...

Do this for each folder. Then you can combine them all at the end.

Hope that helps!

You might try doing a batch convert using irfanview, or some other graphics tool. In this mode they do some automatic renaming which might make life easier in the short run. The suggestion to add a suffix so it means something is a good one in the longer term so you do not have a cheat sheet to remember what the image is when you are looking at the html code which regrettably will be necessary sooner or later.

Right now I'm using GraphicConverter (Mac) to do the renaming (add a meaningful prefix) before I import the image files. The html files are a bit more work, as I have to rename the files and the links. OR, I'll check out Turtle91 suggestion and only need to change the html files name.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I just finished one chapter of my first ebook!!! It needs a lot of work to get each intended page to show in one ebook page. This ebook is a record of my visit to Israel and my family there. There is another ebook I'm planing about our track through Lithuania, the towns of our ancestors. I'm doing this only for the family, not to publish, and I appreciate all the help your have given me.

Thanks,
silvia
