Calibre Blacklisting by Gutenberg
I've been using the "Store" facility of Calibre to search for books across various "Stores" including Gutenberg.

Twice now after I had been looking for books I have found that I couldn't access Gutenberg from my PC - it returned a 403 error.

Digging further I see that they ban "automated access" and I have come across other instances of Python Scripts accessing the site resulting in the users IP address being blacklisted.

Has anyone else hit the same problem or have I put two and two together and made five ?

Yes. Exactly the same just happened to me. I sent them an email as advised but am still blocked.

They are a bit slow when it comes to unblocking, particularly over a weekend. Based on my experience it could be Tuesday before you are back in.


You could try resetting your broadband connection to see if you can get a new ip address assigned.

Yes. Tried that, but I got the same address. Finally used a proxy.

Still, I'm unblocked again now. I must remember to untick Gutenberg in the Calibre search options.
