Qualcomm shows off ultra high-res Mirasol screen
http://blog.gsmarena.com/qualcomm-sh...rasol-display/
Ridiculously high resolution aside, this screen has now the size for a proper (small) e-book reader. I'd say that the colors, while they're in need of improvement, are much better than other times we've seen Mirasol screens. Maybe we can dream of having it soon? ![]() |

depends: is it back or bottom lit? or is it under plain natural light?
but yeah, colors are much better. not that I have much use to it for 90% of my reading... still, should be a fine digital portrait |

Not a fail at all if it's just on cell phones. I dream of a time I can actually see anything on my cell phone when I'm out in the sun.

There aren't any working screens. That is a picture of a printed picture. It says more about nthe printer than the screen. Nate Hoffelder at the-digital-reader has a story on it.

For argument's sake,
disregarding the particular power requirements, disregarding the need for back light for front light or side light, etc., disregarding somewhat the imperfections of color, a color display that is easily readable in sunlight would have a big, big market. For phones, for cameras, for GPS units, for outdoor displays, ... for me. |

I agree with others here, had high hopes with Mirasol screens two years back. But it has been as elusive as flexible screens. At least we have seen working prototypes for flexible screens. Mirasol, not so sure anymore.
Edit: Heard about Kyobo Mirasol reader but never saw one and from the reviews its not worth it. Last edited by din155; 05-24-2013 at 05:00 AM. |

It'll be a while year before we see products using roll-ups or foldables but the real volume market with be in ruggedized devices, making them more resistant to daily use and abuse, and those exist. All that remains is getting the tech refined for high volume uses. |
