Strange problem with ad supported kindle.
Well, not really a problem but definitely strange.
About a week ago, my Kindle 4 black stopped downloading ads. The "Please connect wirelessly to download the latest Special Offers" screensaver, and the banner at the booklist page bottom was all I had. I have had no problems connecting to wifi however, and can use the store just fine. Any purchases or archive downloads appear within seconds. Still, the lack of ads bothered me, as it meant that something was wrong. I rebooted a couple of times, deregistered/registered and nothing seemed to help. So I did a factory reset, and went through the setup without issue. Now the Kindle thinks that it isn't ad supported at all. No banner at the bottom, no "view special offers" option, and the screensavers are the standard Kindle 4 screensavers (ballpoint pens, typewriter keys, pen and inkwell ect.) I checked my account and the Kindle is still subscribed to special offers. My issue is this - I have a non ad supported kindle without paying for it or doing any kind of jailbreak - it just magically did it. Should I notify Amazon, or let it go? |

If you no longer want the ads, let it go.

I guess I just don't want Amazon to think that I hacked it and disable my account or something.

Something is going on. My kindle keyboard is no longer showing ads either and I've had numerous solid connects to Amazon. Personally, I'm not going to worry about it.

![]() He said that he hasn't had any reports of this happening and will open a ticket. He also said that unless the Kindle connects to the ad server, it will act as if it's non-ad supported until it does. So once it connects to the server it will then behave like it's supposed to. |

Don't concern yourself with it. If it bothers you at all, then just leave the Wi-Fi connected even when you put the device in sleep mode. It'll connect as the rep said & then it'll go back to normal. I've had your exact scenario happen. It's not a big deal. You'll get the ads & the offers back then turn off the Wi-Fi. It just needs to 'call home' and then all is well.
Leave the Wi-Fi on for half an hour to an hour or so then you should be good. ![]() |

My K4s are both not showing any ads at the moment. I think it's on their end.

I'm sure you will all be happy to know that my K3 is now showing ads like it's supposed to. I know I'm relieved.
