Toku- influenced fiction
I wouldn't be surprised if nobody here knew what Tokutatsu is, but we've all experienced the questionable TV shows that result when someone tries Roboteching Japanese and American footage together- Power Rangers, Beetleborgs, and Masked Rider.
That having been said, there's also quite a few Toku shows that aren't pointed at children, and most aren't quite as hokey as the mishmash versions. My question is, anyone think there's much of an audience for Toku- influenced fiction? Characters who can summon armor or some other costume to fight evil, monsters who can be entirely monstrous or sometimes more human than human, martial arts combat, magic or super-technology (or both), that sort of thing? |

I wouldn't be interested in it, but I'll bet my games-playing son would enjoy it.

I have no idea. My son watch Power Rangers on Netflix for ever, so maybe? He was 7-9years old at that time though.

Isn't this just a slice of the super-hero genre? Seems like Marvel's movie franchise doing awesomely well (Avengers, Iron Man, Spider Man). Not sure if books, aside from comics, are doing well.
I certainly enjoyed Peter Clines' recent "Ex-Heroes" and "Ex-Patriots" novels (super-heroes and zombies mash-up) but I don't know how well they are selling. |

I think there's a market for it. But then, I was a huge fan of Robotech back in the day, so I might be biased.
![]() In the end, like every other genre, it's all going to come down to how well you implement it. |
