How Ebook Buyers Discover Books
The reader sample is relatively small but it's still food for thought.

Is it really so strange that recs from fellow online community users are used more than recs from family/local friends? I don't read the same kinds of books that my family reads, not even slightly. A lot of us find our "tribe" online based on a shared interest in particular kinds of books, and the sample was drawn only from people who use a book-related forum (mobileread).
I always laugh when deadtree panickers start shrieking "BUT HOW WILL PEOPLE DISCOVER BOOKS NOOOOOW?" Do any of us really have a shortage of TBR/wishlist books? My problem lies more along the lines that my current TBR+wishlist will last me at least five years. |

Given the close relationship between most ereaders and computers, I'm not surprised that most recommendations come from online communities.

To complicate things further, I get a fair few recs online from people who I know or I've met IRL. There's not really a classification for that in most surveys.
