Can you ... ?

Hi guys,

1>. Can you print articles or anything that is in the reader?

2>. How can you share the books that you bought in an ebookstore with your friend? I am currently taking a literature class and i have an English tutor. The problem is if i can't print anything out of it, i need to know how i can send the ebooks downloaded from an ebookstore to my tutor?

3>. I bought my ebooks at booksonboard.com. Does the Adobe format work with Sony PRS? If so, is there any conversion that has to be done (like the microsoft reader format) before it can be used?

Thanks a bunch

1. You can print some of the material but only after you have moved the material you want to print over to your computer. Most DRM files can not be printed.

2. You can't send the e-books purchased from a store to your friend. They are encoded to work only on the computer(s) and/or the sony reader device(s) you have registered to your account. At least, that's the way it works for the Sony store. Files from other bookstores, where the files aren't linked to specific devices, can simply be e-mailed to your friend. Remember, however, that when you purchase those files part of the purchase agreement is that you won't share those files with others, since those extra copies won't have been paid for.

3. I checked out that site and it's not clear if the Adobe e-book format is the new format which has been discussed or if it's simply a PDF file. If it is the new e-book format, you can't read that on the Sony Reader and to the best of my knowledge so far there isn't any conversion possible. You would need to buy the Microsoft .lit format and follow the procedures outlined elsewhere to remove the DRM and then use libprs500 to convert to .lrf format.

Printing eBook material

If you go to this site, you can purchase screen printing software:

http://www.broderbund.com/shopping/s...rd=screen+shot

Naturally, you must do your printing from eBook Library on your PC - not the Reader, itself.

However, it should be noted that printing any copyrighted material for any use is illegal unless its for your own private purposes.

It should be noted that hitting the "print screen" button on your keyboard will copy your whole window to the clipboard, which you can then easily paste into the image-editing program of your choice (even Paint). From there you can adjust it to print out how you need it (making the image the size of a piece of paper and centering the text would probably work, though I've never tried it).
Having a program to do this for you might make it easier, though, and programs like SnagIt can offer extra features to make things more simpler for basic users.
Still, taking a screenshot of each page you want to print would seem to be an extremely laborious process and in the end you're probably not going to be able to print out any of the official books purchased from the Sony store without a ton of effort (at least until somebody cracks the protection on them and can turn them into plain text). For now, the answer to your first two questions is that you pretty much aren't able to print or share any books purchased from the Sony store.

eBooks purcahse at the Sony eBook Store can be registered with up to 6 devices one having to be a computer. What you can do is have your tutor download and install eBook Library and login using your account. That way his/her computer will be authorized to view these eBooks.

No eink reader works with DRM laden Adobe PDF eBooks.

If you hold down the ALT key while hitting the "print screen" you will only copy the current window into the clipboard. This is usually a lot easier to deal with than the full screen.
