Page Numbering
All of the books I have display the total number of pages in the book. I understand that a page is equal to 1024 characters, and that I will have the page number change only after several page turns.
However, I just purchased a book from Kobo and the page numbering is by chapter. And the page number changes with each page turn, regardless of how you sent the font size. When you reach the end of the chapter, it automatically jumps to the new chapter with a new page count. Is this system of page numbering showing up in other books now? It's no big deal, but I have no idea of how far it is till the end of the book now. Edit: I believe that it's because it is a kepub. Any way of getting the old page numbering system back? |

Yes, that's right. Page numbering is different between the side-loaded epubs and kepubs.
I tried enabling "Show page numbers in the margin" on a kepub but to no effect. It does say on the settings page that this applied to some Adobe EPUBs. |

That function is strictly for sideloaded epubs. It will put the page number on the right hand side of the screen at the line where the page break actually occurs. The on/off option is there because depending on your margin settings it can overlap some of the text.

Correct. As has been suggested: the only way to get "normal" numbering back is to sideload the epub version of the Kobo book. |

Here's how it happened. I purchased the book from the website on my PC and downloaded using ADE. It was the epub version. I added it to Calibre and stripped the DRM, (using a top secret method no one is allowed to mention!). I did not load it on to my Kobo.
However, the next time I connected the Kobo to the PC, the Kobo desktop app added the book to my device. As others have mentioned, you can't control this. I guess what I got this time was the kepub version. |

You can also select multiple books, I think the options appear in the bottom bar in the Kobo desktop app. Note this will only be visible if you have a connected device. |

![]() No, sideloaded books are left alone. They're not treated as a copy of the kepub. You'll just temporarily have two copies of the same book in two different formats on your device. Quote:
I was afraid I'd have to go through the whole thing again if I'd do a factory reset or got a new device, but, somehow, only 5 kepubs are synced [after a factory reset/on to a new devices]. The latest 5 purchases are synced, the rest is put into "not sync" mode. So, if you do have millions of kepubs, it might be worth doing a factory reset? I don't know. |

OK thanks, I might give it a go, but it is a pity we have to sync books first before we can archive them. I always side-load all my Kobo purchased books, because I like to re-format them first.

Have you updated the desktop application? The latest version doesn't automatically put the books on the device. The function that Mrs_Often describes is part of this version. The version I have is 3.2.0.

I already have the Kobo desktop 3.2.0. I have one book showing in the Kobo desktop library. In the website this book is in the "I'm Reading" list. All my other Kobo books are in the Trash list (I've previously deleted them to move them to Trash so they do not get downloaded.
Now in Kobo desktop, the one book I have there has a little purple bookmark. How to I stop it from synchronising to the device (it is not obvious)? If I right click the book I have options to Open, View Details, or Delete from Library. I think the latter will remove it completely. Edit: if I try to Open the book I get "We are unable to display the selected content". It may be locked or corrupt". I guess something is broken regarding the DRM and my ADE id. Now I am stuck!
