Better way to get notified about firmware updates than browsing Amazon's page?
Consider Lenovo offers an RSS feed for driver updates. An e-mail update I can subscribe to is also the same good option.

As a second best option someone can open an unofficial blog only about Kindle Firmware updates and people can subscribe to that by RSS/e-mail.

I agree it's like usually within hours. Besides it's best to come here for that kind of info. You don't want to update on something without feedback of the new features, changes, bugs...etc.

If I didn't have wireless I would probably stroll down to Black Coffee, order a cup of coffee, and download books and get updates there. Or maybe the Nuevo Mundo Coffee Shop. Or Araby. Or Llano Park with free public WiFi.

I would probably not come here and wonder why Kindle doesn't have the Poor Avid01 Download Service.
