Overdrive Renewals
Overdrive public library ebooks can now be renewed. I first saw the notice a month or two ago, but I used the option for the first time today. I didn't see anyone else post on the topic in the meantime. It's just like submitting a hold request on a book you already have out. When your book expires, they send you an email and you have to log in to your account and get your book. I'm not sure whether it has to be re-downloaded/transferred to your reading device but I will update when I have tested this. It is available at both libraries I am a member of, in two different countries, so I imagine it is available at all Overdrive libraries.

I saw that, too. Unfortunately, most of the books I check out are on hold for someone else, and the option is not available. But I got an older book once and was given the option to renew.

Yes, I just saw this today when one of my holds became available. Nice.

Sorry for taking so long to update.
I had to delete the expired book and re-download it, so it's not a particularly seamless process. I had it on two devices, Android tablet and Sony reader. I noticed when I opened it on my reader that it opened at the start, although I don't remember if I had previously opened it on my reader or just on my tablet. So I'm not sure if it will remember the last page read or if it will be treated as a completely new file. |

Yes I just noticed this too. It has me unbelievably upset, because...
A month ago you could click renew and it granted you more time!!!! Why did they go ahead and break something that worked just fine, and replace it with anti-seamlessness??? |

I suspect that the publisher who only allow a book to be borrowed a certain number of times before it expires have something to do with it...I'm sure they would have seen seamless renewals as an end-runaround of their limitation.

Unless they counted such renewals as, um, renewals?
