Those are total installed base numbers, BTW. Not quarterly sales.
So some Kindle advantage over Nexus is to be expected; they have a 6 month lead. And the 33% share is for the US. But the Nexus numbers from ASUS are global. Figure Nexus sold another 2 million in nov and december for a total of 5 million and 57% of that is US so about three million Nexus US sales. Amazon at 4X Google would be 12 million installed base. If Google had slightly better sales or a higher US presence that they do internationally (which I doubt) you might have 4 million US Nexuses and 16 million FIRE's. Hmmm, okay... Maybe. I understand that, but the number still seems high to me. They don't say that they have data on all the Android devices out there, and the data on Apple devices doesn't compare to the data on Android devices. If they have data on 25% of the smartphones and tablets out there for example, that would mean that there are 2 billion such devices in the world, which seems high to me.
