Christmas Carol free Google books
As one of their Christmas freebies, Google Play users get the original novella today.
Find it on the main Google Play screen. Edit: The Google Play version has illustrations and accompanying recorded content that can be played on your tablet featuring a voice cast re-creating some scenes. Yes, you do have to have an account with them to get the book, but so do any of the Kindle freebies, etc., so if you don't have an account with Google Play already you will need to set one up. Thanks, but it is public domain, and google books are giving away something they got for nothing. Why not get it from Gutenberg direct, no account or login needed.

Why would you want to go anywhere but our library, where we have (if I may be immodest) a MUCH nicer version of all five of Dickens's Christmas Books in a handy omnibus edition?

Sorry, Harry. I am sure it is beautiful.
I think my point, that Google aren't really giving anything, is still valid. |

I guess one could say that they're giving it away precisely as much as MR or PG are

Yes, but Gutenberg are volunteers working for the public good. So, I suppose, is mobileread. Google are collecting our information to make money, and trying to sucker us in with a pd book. They could at least offer something that we might otherwise have to pay for in return for their statistics collection.

OK, if it is enhanced then it is worth looking at. Thank you for the information.
Happy Christmas, one and all. |

I say more than one edition should be able to co-exist in peace in my library. But I love Dickens! I have the MR edition (thanks Harry, it's lovely) but having never owned an enhanced ebook, I am curious to whether I'd like that or not. I was quite happy to add Google's offering, if only to try it. May not be my cuppa, but my view is that I don't have to read it again if it isn't.
I'm just grateful to live in an age where we have so many reading options available to us. |
