Amazon "may" be giving me a free Paperwhite

Something strange happened today. I received an email from Amazon stating that they were giving me a refund of $217.77 for returning my Paperwhite. The only thing is, I did not "return" a Paperwhite, I "exchanged" mine (several times ) and still have one in my possession and on my account.

I have already received the refund as a gift card in my account.

I spent my lunch trying to straighten this mess out but so far no go. I don't have time to follow-up again until Friday.

I wonder if they decided to gift it to me because I still wasn't happy. One can hope.

I'm not sure how long ago you returned your paperwhites for exchange, but eventually they'll figure out you still have one and charge you for it.

They'll likely get it sorted. Tumi sent me a bag with a major defect, which I returned the same day for an exchange. I received a new bag and a refund, and it took them two months to charge me for the replacement.

Interesting. Please keep us posted.

My last PW return was about a month ago and it was and exchange not a refund request.

The real pain for me is that all my TV season passes and Kindle books are coming out of that unplanned gift card and there isn't anything I can do about it. I can re-route my regular Amazon purchases but not the digital purchases.

I just received a call from Dylan at Amazon (Dylan was working with me on all my Paperwhite replacements). It was a follow-up call which had nothing to do with my refund. I told him about the refund and he said he will take care of it on Monday.

Since I still have screen issues I'm not happy with (though I'm used to them now), he offered me a $30 Gift Card and I still have the option to replace or refund my PW within the one year warranty.

I feel better about the whole situation now.

I had the same happen to me and I called them right away to let them know I was initially charged for two and I was still wanting two. They surprisingly gave me a 10$ credit for being so honest. $30 sounds like...umm..triple that!

The cool thing is the $30 had nothing to do with me reporting the refund. Dylan had me on his calendar to make a follow-up call and the $30 was because he knew I wasn't completely happy.

Even though I had to give an extra push to get elevated Customer Service, I've been really happy with Amazon's efforts to make me satisfied with my purchase.

Ooooh, OK! I had a lot of frustrations with their CS until one representative started looking into my case and became my sole point of contact. I had a lot of faulty screens, but now am happy as can be with the PW I kept or myself. And, I am just realizing that I have been recommending the PW a lot lately, so worked in their favor to help me through the repeat screen issues. I lurrrve my PW.

@randomzonbie: I only kept one and gifted two, but mine is 95jt. The last three I received had a much improved contrast, BTW.
