Is there a way to adjust the weight of downloaded fonts

Hi

Is there a program for creating a heavier weight version of existing open type fonts? If so, can someone please direct me to it and explain how to use it?

The main font I use for readng books is Amaranth, a free Sans Serif font that you can download from here http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/li...e/Sans%20Serif. I would like to have a slightly darker "weightier" version to use when I have the Kobo Glo light on. As this is a downloaded font I can't do this within the Advanced options in the Kobo software and therefore would like to somehow create a weighter version, whose weight is somewhere between Regular and Bold.
