Normally it IS easy to create a new custom column, so why you want to copy it?
I think you have to explain a bit more...

I agree with Minnie
The is a Create Library option that uses the Structure (which includes all LIBRARY settings) of the current Library

Then you can add books with Copy to Library and have custom data maintained

@MiniMouse- Complex program mode templates used in derived columns and a long list of column icon conditions might reasons why you'd want it. The first can be dealt with coffee & pasta - but I don't think its so easy with the second

BTW I admire your work on covers, even though I usually remove covers with Modify plugin.

Maybe, but I still think a bit more information wouldn't hurt to maybe come up with a solution.

I use multiple libraries and when/if I decide to add custom columns I thought there had to be a better way to add the column to the other libraries than to manually go to each one and rerun the create custom column steps.

Thanks for all your input

Actually there is as I found recently. I think it is also a relatively recent addition to the featureset. If you copy a book to a library which does not yet contain al of the custom columns, Calibre will prompt you and offer to create these columns for you. At the same it will tell you that it will only do so once per session, which likely means that it won't prompt you a second time if you happen to again be copying to yet another library not having these columns. I am not sure but I believe that the book also needs to be actually specifying a value for custom columns for this response to be triggered

An Alternate is to create a NEW Library using the 'Copy Structure' option, then add the books from old version to the new version, then you can rename (after deleting the old) it back

Thank you...updated to the new version, been stalling :P, and when I copied to another library I got the prompt....It lets you choose which ones to copy and just so you know it does not have to be populated in that book for it to be included in the prompt/copy.

Thanks, At_Libitum.

My time spent searching, applying the solution, and posting this reply is still less than the time and effort required to manually setup my custom columns in another library.
