Converting epub to mobi
I scanned an old book and painstakingly went through it to retain as much of the original formatting as possible using Sigil. I want to also make a .mobi format available and I'm using Calibre for the conversion.
Calibre keeps adding an extra page after the cover though that includes all the metadata. I thought I can just delete all the metadata for now, do the conversion, and then rename it back correctly, but that still left an extra page with the following at the top: Unknown Unknown ______________________ I'm hoping there's a setting somewhere that will let me convert the book exactly as is without adding that extra page. What am I missing to eliminate it? |

At some point you went to Preferences - Common Options - Structure Detection and checked the Insert metadata as page at the start of book box. Uncheck this option and you should be fine.

That was one of the first things I had changed. I thought maybe it was a change that wouldn't happen until Calibre was restarted so just tried that to be sure, but I'm still getting the metadata added into the .mobi file on conversion.
Edit: I updated Calibre to the newest version hoping it might fix whatever the problem was, but the same thing happened. Made sure that Insert metadata as page at the start of book was not checked, convert book, and still had that extra page. Tried it again, still had the extra page. Tried it a 3rd time still not believing it wouldn't work, and finally! That extra page was not in the converted .mobi. It seemed like a stuck setting I couldn't get rid of, but it is working now. Thanks. Last edited by Ripplinger; 10-17-2012 at 02:29 AM. |

I had changed it in both places... in the global settings and also on the conversion window that pops up when you do the actual conversion, I made sure they both matched.
For whatever reason it didn't hold, it is holding now, so I'm a happy camper. ![]() Edit: Now that I think about it, trying various things I did check the box to include the metadata purposely on the window that comes up when you click Convert. I did a conversion, it turned out as it should with the metadata. Then did another conversion and unchecked that box... and that was the 3rd time that worked. |
