Arrow Collapsible TOC - possible?

I have a book with huge Table of Content - 127 pages fully unrolled.
Obviously, I want it to be more easily manoeuvrable so that the second level chapters collaps and unroll only if I click on the main level chapters.

Is this possible to achieve in MOBI or EPUB format?

You can create multi-level TOCs in KF8 and ePub. Whether they will work depends on which e-reader you use, but many of the newer models do support them.

I am using Kindle 3G Keyboard. Would it support it?

If not, then does Duokan firmware support it?

I'm not sure as I no longer have a K3. The K3s now support KF8 so in theory it could work, but you need verification from a K3 owner.

Collapsible TOCs usually require the use of javascript, so probably not.

No, on the Sony readers and at least on the new Kindle Paperwhite they are supported by firmware. You click/touch the level 1 TOC heading and it then displays all the level 2 headings below it.

Having said that, I suspect that with a TOC that is 127 pages long there will be issues.

I just checked on my Kindle Touch. The Touch displays multi-level TOCs but they are always uncollapsed. The Paperwhite allows you to collapse and uncollapse them.

Actually in mobi as well. At least Kindle Touch and Paperwhite support it, perhaps the new Fires also.

You can do it on Kindle Touch as well. Have to be a little careful about finger placement, aim a little to the left of the arrows.

It's up to the book designer to design the NCX so it is usable. If they are throwing hundreds of TOC entries in there without any hierarchy, then that is what the user gets.

But by the same token, Amazon could improve the navigation by letting you interact with the scroll bar to jump to a specific location in a long list. Or have a button to 'collapse all' so you can shrink the list to top level only entries.

I believe it is possible to have more than one navlist defined. So you can have one for chapters, one for illustrations, etc.

I cannot get it to work on my Touch, but I do have fat fingers. I tried several times and it just goes to the link for the level 1. The book might not be formatted correctly though. I'll try to find another book to test.

No, it did not. KF8, yes, but navigational TOC, no. The two features are completely independent, though they arrived on Kindle Touch at the same time.
