Firmware Update 1.0.02.08090
T2 Firmware Update -- gee, that was fast
http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-do...&os_group_id=3 Updated info: I'm on a Mac, so the above link is for Macs. For Windows, go here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-...d#/downloadTab You can also update directly from your T2 without connecting to a computer. If your T2 doesn't notify you automatically, go to Applications > Settings > System > Check for Updates. Last edited by pssquirrel; 09-01-2012 at 12:44 PM. Reason: updated info plus Windows link |

That was fast! I would like to know if the T2 does wireless updates. The 950 firmware updates occurred that way. However the T1 required you to connect to your computer.

Note: the firmware update you linked to is for the MAC system, not the Windows systems. It gives a specific link for the Windows system.

As soon as I got the wireless up and running on my wife's new T2, it notified me of an update. I downloaded it with the T2 and ran the update. Worked well.

This utility updates the PRS-T2 firmware to version 1.0.02.08090 and provides the following benefits:
Improvements over original system software version: * Improves the display of highlighted words and thumbnails when posting to the Facebook® online service * Improves stability and performance |

Thanks, gunbad! That is what I would expect to be competitive with the other major brands. It is frustrating that Sony took a step back with the T1. They worked fine on the 950. I am glad that the T2 appears to have fixed several of the wireless connectivity issues making it a better user experience and less reliant on a computer connection.

Has anyone tried the generic way of installation? The Windows updater files doesn't seem to differ fundamentally.

Has anyone managed to backport the T2 firmware to a T1 yet?

I tried to update the firmware yesterday, but a part of Norton Security Suite called SONAR stopped the installation because it "detected suspicious activity from the program 'reader updater.exe'." Norton's Security history says, "Activity: Threat actions performed: 3". This is the first time Norton or any other anti-virus program has prevented me from installing something.
Now I'm uncertain what to do. I have asked about this on the Norton forums, but not received any replies. Is the program really a threat? Do any of you have to disable your anti-virus program to install it? |

i run microsoft security essentials and had no issue with downloading and installing the update on win7. if your downloading it directly from sony, i wouldn't worry about it, just double check the link and you should be fine.

I would not use Norton anti-virus or security suite. It slows down the computer and it does what it thinks is best instead of asking what I want. Garbage!

I followed a suggestion in the Norton forum and downloaded a newer version of Norton Security Suite (which I didn't know existed).
After that, I checked the Sony website again, and found out that there was newer firmware available: version 1.0.03.09110. This time the installation went without a hitch. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments. |
