Collections

Ive had to recreate my Calibre library on my desktop due to laptop malfunction. Now I have a bunch of collections that I don't want, such as Animal, Legends, Newberry Medal, etc. I remember that there was a way to avoid all these misc collections and only have the ones you set but forget how! Trying t get my Sony reader for vacation darn it.

Go to preferences -> plugins -> device interface plugins -> Sony Device Interface (not the one for the T1 unless you actually have a T1). Change the contents of the box labeled "Comma separated list of metadata fields to turn into collections" to contain the fields you want. My guess is that you don't want "tags" to be in that box.
