T2 vs T1 Dimensions (Is Sony a horrible cheap company?)
So! Is Sony going to play it's usual money-grabbing trick of changing the new model's dimensions in order to charge outrageous sums for a case that cost pennies to produce?
Previously I could almost understand it. The models were sort-of different enough to justify a size change. But the the T1 and the T2? Nah. The only difference is one is shiny and the other isn't. So then, here are the dimensions differences: T2 Dimensions: 172 × 109 × 8.8 mm T1 Dimensions: 173 × 110 × 8.9mm As you can see, it's a close run thing. There is a difference of 1mm in two dimensions and 0.1mm in the depth! I personally am excited. Will this mean the T2 will not fit the T1 case? The T1 case is pretty snug. It might fit, it might not! The tension is gripping. For now the jury is out. But take it from me: if that case doesn't fit, Sony will prove themselves to be total cheap a******s. |

More likely T2 cases won't fit T1, since T2 is smaller?
Unfortunately the market demands going for the smallest form factor and weight possible. If they used the exact same dimensions, people would complain about how there's no improvement whatsoever... |

Where did you get those numbers?
Sony Germany lists the following dimensions: http://www.sony.de/product/rd-reader-ebook/prs-t2 173 x 110 x 9,1 mm |

Oh, yeah. I didn't see that. I wonder if Sony could rig it that the smaller T2 won't fit the larger T1 case. Now that would be something. Mind you, they have achieved it with all previous models. Sony's ability to force users to buy new cases at absurdly inflated prices should never be underestimated. Previously they did it by using the spine-type fixing method (600, 650, etc). Does this mean they will totally re-design the holding mechanism. I'm excited.

i have the lighted case for the t1 and the overlap to lock the t1 in is big enough to make the t2 secure. if you check the accessory section under the t2 the cases look the same. i am sure the t2 will fit perfectly well into the t1 case and i would not be surprised if it is the exact same case they are using for t2.

If the reader is only a mm smaller then I'm sure it will probably fit in the same case. Don't get all worked up.

It's amazing how a thread can be started and sustained quibbling over the 200um difference in thickness from one model to the next and how it will affect the fit of existing covers.

![]() I'm still just kind of shocked that the T2 is SO similar to the T1. Where's my reflowable metal alloy? ![]() |

The PRS-505 fit into the PRS-600 cases I think. Maybe the PRS-700 as well. I'm not sure about the PRS-500. |

I was at a Sony Store today.
FWIW, the packaging for the new lighted covers (PRSA-CL22) says it's compatible with both T2 and T1. |
