I want a new reader
I am debating between Kobo Vox and Sony PRS-T2.
I have a Sony PRS-600 but recently read Istanbul Passage on my IPad. I spent a good deal of time switching to GoogleMaps and finding the streets mentioned in the book, not to mention looking at maps for Turkey, Greece, Dardanelles, traveling the Bosphorus. It was a great reading experience. The IPad is too heavy to use all the time. I know I could do something similar on a Vox but can I also do that on the PRS-T1 or T2? Is the browser good enough to handle GoogleMaps or do I need a Vox so I can download apps from Google Play? I think the Sony might be better as a pure reader but I think what I want is the middle ground between the IPad and PRS-600. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

What about Nexus 7? Can't answer about the Sony, Kobo I heard was slow when it was released.

If you're willing to update it to get the google maps, the enTourage Pocket eDGE might be just what you want. I read on the "big" eDGe and having 2 screens is wonderful -- one to read on and one to look things up.

Yes, the Kobo is similar in spec to the Nook Color which is pretty tired. That said, if it's just for reading it's not bad, but the Nexus 7 is much faster & smoother and the higher rez screen is great (as long as you're Ok with no microSD).

I want a new ereader
Thanks for the responses. I am debating only between the two I mentioned. I already have a tablet so not interested in another. I am leaning towards the Sony but would really like to hear from anyone who has a T1 or a Vox to understand which would better suit the experience I described. They are close enough in price and both available in Canada.
Cheers |

No sd card so not great for a library, can't read outdoors, maybe some minor concern about the future of RIM, more money than I want to spend for a reader. You are right, Vox is not e-ink so Sony might be better for me, if Vox not good outdoors but does have slot for sd card. Maybe it all comes down to how good the browser is on the Sony. |

I would look at the T2 in a store and see how it works with maps.
Since you have a tablet, could use it in conjunction with your reader or switch to it whn you have a book you really want to look things up on. Helen |

I have a T1, Vox and a tablet so I guess I could answer you... The Vox IS good outdoors, just not as good as e-ink. I find it somewhat easier to read outside than my Tab but if in direct sunlight, there is of course a glare on both so the e-ink reader has that aspect all wrapped up... The Vox will seem very slow compared to your iPad however!
I think the T1 or T2 will meet your needs for Google Maps, it displays quite well on my T1. Last edited by Cdesja5; 08-24-2012 at 03:21 PM. |
