Setting up Kindle collections
My wife uses a kindle (one with keyboard) and has had it for quite a while.
She has never registered it. She has quite a few books on that we have downloaded from all over converted to mobi, most probably have had drm removed. She now wants to be able to organize by collections, but this is greyed out and from reading here it seems you have to register to get to use that feature. So how do you register and when you do does Amazon download info about what you have on your Kindle? If she now registers will any of her content get altered or removed? |

She does need to register to have collections. You can do this via the Manage Your Kindle page on your Amazon.com account.
No, Amazon is not going to search what is on your Kindle, or remove/alter any user-added documents. |

Collections is hard work on the Kindle much easier on Calibre, edit tags, it does it for u.
Also u get newspapers from around the world without subscriptions from Calibre. |

Thanks decided to just go to her Amazon page which she already had set up and register.
She now has collections, I use calibre to put books on her Kindle for her. Not going to start using tags as I do all the work. She now has collections and knows, at least she did yesterday, how to set up a collection and then add books. Right now she has one collection called "books I have read" This to me is the most important collection so far as she would delete her books when read and then Calibre would show the book and no on her Kindle and I wouldn't have a clue whether to add it or what. Actually I have encouraged her to set up some collections and she probably will now that she knows how. |

Actually for others reading, you do have to register. The "Manage Your Kindle" page isn't very useful if you have no Kindles registered to it.

Huh? I did say that it needs to be registered. When you click on the Manage Your Kindle page on your Amazon account, on the left are a series of options, one being "Register a Kindle."
