New 9" ideatab: At $300, this tablet is just barely more expensive than the Nexus 7
This looks fun.
9-inch 1280×800 touchscreen, a quad-core 1.2 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of built-in storage, a 3 MP rear camera, a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI out, and it runs ICS. Quote:

Resolution is worse. It only has 167 ppi vs 216 ppi for the Nexus. The sole review at Best Buy gave it 2 stars because of the display. Not good.
Lack of a card slot is also a negative. |

Sounds nice, apart from the missing card slot. No card slot, no sale.

Is it really missing if it never had it?

The PPI is important to the reading aspect - sharper text makes for more pleasant reading, and the 9" form-factor is just a bit too big to be comfortable, in my books... especially when you can go up an inch and get the clarity of the new iPad. The Nexus 7 is nice and light, despite its drawbacks, and has a screen like a paperback's in size. The 9" is bigger than a paperback, yet smaller than a hardcover... and at the same price, I can get a 7" with an SD card slot, or an Acer Iconia A200 with a 10" screen, MicroSD slot, HDMI support, and a PPI not much lower than this offering, but with more capability.
Sure, you lose the rear camera... but what type of person uses their tablet's camera to take pictures all the time? ![]() |

Looks interesting, but I'd wait until I could see some reviews of it online.

I like the HDMI connection. Yeah, a card slot is preferred.

How does this tablet compare to the Toshiba Excite 16GB which Costco had on sale recently for $300?

Apparently it does have a micro sd card slot. One of the BestBuy reviewers said it was behind a door between the speakers. Engadget also said it had one.
