News formatting differs from Sony to Sony
Hello,
I've asked this question at the Sony forum, but I've been told that I might have better luck here with you guys. Thanks in advance. I am a big fan of Sony Readers and Calibre, especially being a Linux user. So, I've had a few Sonys of different types, and use Calibre to download newsfeeds from time to time (I particularly enjoy The Economist, I don't know if it makes a difference). Well, when I use a prs-650, I get a page with the text in the middle (of course), on the top line two lines with the magazine name and section/article, and on the bottom line a menu that allow me to move to the next article, previous article, or table of contents. This happens at every page. With the prs-t1 I do not get that, instead it is one of two options, either no menu whatsoever, and you can only skip to the next article at the beginning of an article, or a menu at the bottom with only one link to the table of contents. It is not clear to me what makes each of these options active. I'd like to have the menu from the prs-650, being able to skip to the next article at any point. Is there a way of configuring that ? I've searched in all options on Calibre, but didn't find it. Does anyone else have this problem ? Is there a solution ? Thanks, Sergio. |

Somebody has to reverse engineer the periodical format used by SONY in the T1. If that happens then the periodicals created by calibre can be enahanced to display as periodicals on the T1.

Any hopes that this reverse engineering can be done ? Or in a more practical way, any tips for doing so ? Thanks, this has been very helpful. |

I am not interested in doing the reverse engineering. The relevant code that creates the extra stuff for the periodical format currently is in epub/periodical.py in the calibre source code. Feel free to play with and see if you can get it to work on the T1.

I understand you don't have the time to do it, I'll look into the code, though I suspect I won't have the time either. Anyway, thanks, at least I know where to look now. |
