Question Updating Calibre

Hi, I am a new member and this is my first post. Please could someone tell me, if, when I update Calibre, I will loose any of my books stored in it or not.

Thank you for any help that you are able to give me.

You need to post this in the Calibre forum. I am sure a helpful Mod will move it soon. In the meantime the answer is no, you shouldn't lose books.
You do have a back-up copy of your library though, don't you?

If you don't, there's a (long) thread here where people discuss how they backup their libraries, which may be of some help: http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...d.php?t=180589

Thanks everyone for your advice. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. I do have a back up of my books, but I have over 1000 and, unless there is a quicker way of transferring them to Calibre than I know about, it does take a long while to put them in there and add the metadata etc, so I'd rather avoid doing that if I can.

Thanks again.

Many of us upgrade calibre on a weekly basis with no data loss.

(No I don't mean that some upgrade and DO loose data....)

No data is lost during upgrading calibre.

Having backups of your books is nice but if you don't want to have to redo all of your hard work then make sure you have a regular backup of your calibre library. If you have a proper back up of your calibre library it takes only a few seconds to restore your calibre library if lost or damaged.

Put your calibre library into dropbox. Then even if your computer dies your library will be intact.

For some possible counter arguments to this, see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185898

Thank you all for noting there is no loss of books when updating calibre versions.

When you update, do you have to re-set all your preferences and customizations and re-add all plugins, including third party plugins?

I searched and couldn't drill down to an answer on this issue.

Thanks for help!

No; there is no need at all to re-set preferences / customizations or re-add plugins; they are all retained by the upgrade process.
