Epub to PDF can't remove page breaks between headers

I managed to get a good font size and margins, but can't seem to fix the issue of page breaks between headers. I tried heuristic processing and "insert blank line between paragraphs" and a couple other things, no dice.

Just to be clear, I provided 2 examples (click the image to make it larger).

Oh, another quick question. I noticed when bulk converting that the spacing between paragraphs wasn't consistent between pdfs. Is there a way to standardize it to some arbitrary value? Eg/ 0.5 inches.

It asks for an Xpath expression, and I honestly don't have a clue what to do with that :/ I looked at the tutorial, I think I have to do something with the h1 and h2 tags, not sure what.

I also tried changing chapter mark from pagebreak to none, still nothing.

No, by default it is //*[name()='h1' or name()='h2']

It's //*[name()='h1' or name()='h2'] etc by default for detect chapters at (Xpath expression) but / for Insert page break before (Xpath expression) for me. Calibre 0.8.61 on Windows.

Edit: I tried changing detect chapters at to /, still nada.

Then your book has the page breaks already defined in it. Edit it with tweak book in calibre or sigil to remove them, or use filter css in calibre.

Bah that seems too complicated, at least if it has to be done manually for each epub.

Well aside from that issue, I came up with some nice preferences for epub -> pdf, at least for PC viewing.

Base font size: 15.0 pt
Insert blank line between paragraphs [check]
Line size: 1.5 em
Enable heuristic processing [check]
Left margin: 50.0 pt
Right margin: 50.0 pt
Insert page breaks before (Xpath expression): /

Everything else usual defaults.

If you are viewing on a PC why go through the trouble of converting to PDF?

Because I like adobe reader better than any epub reader I've come across, particularly for being able to highlight text.
