Kindle 5s?

Since the new members of the kindle line up do not amount to a completely new set of kindles what shall we call the new line up of kindles? Shall we forum members continue to call the new line up of kindles as kindle 4s since the new ones do not amount to a complete set of kindles or shall we referr to them as kindle 5s?

How about?

Kindle Generations

1st = K1 = Kindle
2nd = K2 = Kindle 2
3rd = K3 = KK = Kindle Keyboard
4th = K4 = K4NT = Kindle Non-Touch
4th = KT = Kindle Touch
5th = K5 = K5NT = Kindle Non-Touch
5th = KPW = Kindle Paperwhite

Personally I use the term 5th generation to referr to not simply the new paperwhite reader but also referring to the base model kindle and the kindle keyboard as well.

Well then. probably the KPW or K5s are as good a recommendation as any.

Is a prefix tag in the offing?

I've been using the K# that refers to the firmware used for a specific model.

For example:

K3 = Kindle Keyboard as it runs FW 3.x.x
K4 = Kindle non-touch from last year as it runs FW 4.x.x
K5 = Kindle Touch from last year as it runs FW 5.x.x
K6 = Kindle Fire from last year as it runs FW 6.x.x

Anyone's guess at this point as to the FW designations for all the new models.

This method is much more precise, especially since we now have a ship load of different models from the K1 through this years new entries.

I been using NK4 or K4v2 The K5 is the the Kindle Touch. The KPW is a given. We wont know the firmware number till it ships. Then we will know what number to give it. The Kindle Fire is a K6.

If you say you have a K5 people are going to think it's the KT. It's getting confusing as the name game has changed but we will get it figured out.

True. Amazon made a habit of naming the new Kindle as "Kindle" for a long time which made things confusing. Now with all the new models over the past two years as well as all the new Fire models, it will be really confusing!

Well according to Amazon the New K4 is now called The $69 Kindle so I guess it should be 69K or K69 Talk about crazy.

I'm not good at abbreviating things, but for what it's worth, the amazon software update page groups the K4 and the new black $69 kindle together. So they'll be using the exact same firmware.

It's probably safe to just call them both the K4, since the only real difference is color and price.

Does this mean that previous K4s will get more fonts too? How in the heck is this going to work?

Interesting. I heard the new black Kindle (basic or non-touch) is going to have more fonts. I wonder if they will give these fonts to the current K4 non-touch? That will make a lot of K4 owners very happy if they do!

I'm now thinking that we're being misdirected here. That New Fonts meant Improved Fonts instead of New fonts.

If that is the case we already have their so called new fonts and I'm can tell no difference to the old ones.
