Hello

I discovered this forum while looking for help with Calibre and decided to join it, partly, because the interface is so familiar.

It's rather nice that there is such an active community here, too. I can't promise consistent activity, but I will try (much as with writing daily and dieting, I always try).

I write SF, SFF, magical realism and regular ol' fiction.
I read reference books and historical biographies (et al)—Oh yeah: and comic books!
I have published a book (The Bones of the Magus: All that Remains) which is a hybrid comic, novel. I'd call it a prose comic, but you'd get the wrong idea.

…I"m not so good at promoting, and that sucks, because my publisher is a small literary press. Not a lot of promotion there, either. Also, not so wide a distribution as I would like.

This leads me to the need to e-publish and realm of epub/PDF/* and the whole idea of getting the book out electronically. It's a lovely idea that has thus far caused me no end of frustration.
I'm hoping to connect here with people I can bounce things off of, such as:
  • questions
  • ideas
  • mad ideas
  • madness itself
  • my iPad

I'm reading as many threads here as I can, but am a complete noob when it comes to epublishing and seem to be able to find the not-covered or only-partially-covered problem in every arena I enter, so, with apologies in advance, plan to ask a lot of dumb questions.

Good luck dealing with me. I hope to entertain more than frustrate.

Tristis - Hello. I tend to like people who dislike promoting. A necessary evil.

Welcome, Tristis!

I wonder if it might become standard wisdom in a few years for authors with a dead-tree publisher to negotiate reversion of rights for digital. That is, if your work languishes without any promotion, you can take it over as a digital product.

Luckily enough, I got that in my contract. Well, what I have in my contract is that full rights to the book in any other formats are mine.
