Opinions on "The Strain" Trilogy?

I read book one of this series a while back and really enjoyed the first half of the book and felt kind of "Ehhhh..." about the second half. I was thinking about ordering the 2'nd and 3'rd books but I was wondering if someone that's read the whole series could give a non-spoilery opinion of it. Does the series live up to its potential or is it a let down?

Yeah, it's good, and the ending is appropriately epic and action-movie-esque.

But you should be aware of what the series is going into it... basically it feels like a novelization of a Guillermo del Toro vampire movie that hasn't been made. Make your decision about whether or not to read it based on if that idea appeals to you or not.

Felt the same as you--Book 1 started good by by the end I wasn't interested. Got the second out of the library and gave up after just about 5 chapters. For me, it turned from "potentially interesting story about a vamparism-like infection" to a "me too" version of Underworld or Blade.

Thanks. I checked the library and they had the 2nd book available, and the 3rd on a waiting list. I'll give it a look and decide if they're must haves or not.

I thought the first one was good, the second one passable, and the third one is awful. Feels very rushed, replete with deus ex machina and really poor writing. A lot of action sequences with "when suddenly" and "somehow". Ruined the first two books for me really, but then again I wasn't blown away to begin with.

I read the first one and didn't care for it all, it really seemed quite different from his movies.

I loved the books, but not the beginning of book 1. It took me quite a few attempts to get past the beginning. I did think the writers got lazy a bit in book thre, but still loved the series.

Thanks, that's funny because I thought the first part of book 1 was great. It literally gave me a "oh boy, this is going to be good" shiver, and then it just kind of died halfway through.
