Free (Kindle) Forty Stories [Mystery Pre-Order]

Forty Stories is a HarperCollins pre-order title from their HarperPerennial imprint which has no other information (besides a possibly mistaken "non-fiction" category tag).

Perhaps it'll turn out to be a full free book, perhaps it'll just be one of those sample excerpts.

Whatever it is, it's currently free to pre-order @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK, slated for July 17th).

Per Harper site is "New Writing from Harper Perennial." How informative.

I suspect it may be a sampler, but may pre-order anyway.

In honor of International Short Story Day (ahem, that's today), Harper Perennial is releasing a free short story collection, "Forty Stories," that includes original fiction by a diverse cast of its authors, including novelist Jess Walter, New Yorker editor Ben Greenman, blogger and critic Roxane Gay and, in a perplexing development, the porn star Kayden Kross.

Only seems to be available in PDF, unless I'm missing something?

I downloaded it and then converted it to Mobi and EPub in Calibre. Just read the first story on my Kindle. The conversion is fine, but it's probable that the formatting will be better and with direct links to each story in the Table of Contents when it is released as an ebook.

Forgot to mention that these are 40 complete stories by an intriguing variety of writers. Thanks for letting us know about it.

(When I joined up last month I'd never heard of Calibre, had no clue about DRM or formatting, and was dependent upon the Kindle store. Now I've even read Ivanhoe - at last - and loved it. Thank you, MobileRead.)
