funny reply from Kobo customer care

Regarding purchased book not appearing at Kobo Cloud reader, I send mail to Kobo customer care and I received a funny reply..

"Thank you for contacting us.
Our books from Kobo are not compatible with Kindle.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience!"

Interesting thing is that nowhere in the mail I have talked about Kindle cloud reader..I have clearly mentioned that issue is with Kobo Cloud Reader and I can't figure out why Kobo customer care assumed that I am talking about Kindle cloud reader..Is it because customer support people don't know that Kobo has recently started a cloud reader?..

Does Kobo call it a cloud reader? Could that be where the confusion lies? I believe they call it the "instant reader".

Yes.. You may be right..At Kobo website it is called instant reader..But it is considered to be equivalent of Kindle cloud reader and so generally it is called as Kobo Cloud reader..That is what most of tech websites call it..Whatever be it I feel customer support people should have the ability to understand what customer is complaining about. There is very less chance that a customer complains about Kindle to Kobo help desk..

Never heard it called the Kobo Cloud Reader, usually it's "The Instant Reader", or "The HTML5 App" (which is actually my preferred term for it, but that's just me )

We must travel in different circles. Like Sharkus, I have never heard it called the cloud reader. It is not a very big stretch to imagine people buying Kobo books and expecting them to be usable on a Kindle product, or to call Kobo and ask them why they are not.

Maybe try again with the Kobo contact, using the actual name of the Kobo Instant Reader and see if you get different results.

On the subject of the book not showing up. Could you tell me what the name and author of the book is. Also, is it a book that is on the "Just for Kobo Vox" list (typically comics and read-along books, what we term as fixed layout epub files), if it is from that list then this will be why it does not appear in the Instant Reader app as it does not currently support fixed layout content.

I am not familiar with that one, but I know with Android you can view that app or book again and it will show as purchased and you can re-initialize the download.

Kobo instant reader

I came to know about it as Kobo Cloud Reader from many websites like these..

http://goodereader.com/blog/electron...5-to-the-ipad/

http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20.../#.T8jujoHAalM

http://ebookreader.com/kobo/kobo-clo...ally-released/

Yes it was a mistake on my part that I didn't check Kobo website where they are calling it Kobo instant reader..Any way I send a mail explaining that what I meant was Kobo instant reader rather than Kindle cloud reader. Expecting response from them..

The book I purchased was Martin H Greenberg's anthology "End of the World"..All my other books in my library I am able to access..

The Instant Reader uses a different (not-quite-epub) format from the other Kobo apps – my guess is your title hasn't been converted to that format yet. Hmm.

I've added the book to my account and I see it in the iOS app, but not in the Instant Reader. I'd concur with lessthanyouthink that it's not been converted to the format for instant reader yet, or is unavailable for some other reason.

My suggestion would be to contact customer care and open a ticket with them saying the book is not visible.

issue still not resolved

Response from Kobo customer care again a puzzling one.

"Do you have the Kobo Desktop App as well? Do you usually browse and shop your books using the Instant Reader App instead? Please remember this is a BETA version of the app, there may be certain performance issues. We apologize for this inconvenience."

I have used only desktop app to purchase books.I pointed out to them that the book "The End of the World" when you search at Kobo instant reader it is not listed where as his other books are listed. There for I strongly suspect that as many guys here pointed out this particular book they have not converted to format required for instant reader.
