New Nonfiction Book: The Baby Matrix
![]() Check out my new book! The Baby Matrix: Why Freeing Our Minds From Outmoded Thinking About Parenthood & Reproduction Will Create a Better World My book, Families of Two: Interviews With Happily Married Couples Without Children by Choice, received international attention and paved the way for me to become an expert on the childfree choice. Since then, digging into why society finds this choice hard to fully accept has led me to uncover a specific set of beliefs that has had a deep hold on societies for generations, even though, surprisingly, most people remain unaware of it. The Baby Matrix awakens readers to this set of beliefs called “pronatalism.” At its core, it’s the idea belief that having children should be the central focus of every adult’s life. Why does our society hold the belief that we are all destined to have children? Why do we believe that parenthood is the ultimate road to fulfillment in life? I answer these questions and more through an exploration of and critical look at the pervasiveness of pronatalism” and how pronatalist beliefs affect us individually and collectively, and not in a positive way. The Baby Matrix: •examines the historical origins of pronatalist beliefs •explains why these beliefs have become so embedded such that people see them as “true” •scrutinizes seven major pronatalist assumptions that lead people to accept them without question •offers alternative mindsets that reflect realities, true reproductive freedom and responsibility in today's society •gives readers ways to make post-pronatal mindsets come alive in their lives Whether you are already a parent, want to be a parent, or don’t want children, you’ll never thinking about parenthood in the same way. This manifesto makes the case for why it’s time for all of us to understand we can no longer afford to leave pronatalist assumptions unquestioned. The Baby Matrix is a reality check for us all. Are we willing to hold on to beliefs that aren’t necessarily true … even to our detriment? It is a must-read for anyone interested in psychology, sociology, anthropology, parenting issues, environmentalism, and social justice. But most of all, it’s for anyone, parent or not, who reveres the truth and wants the best for themselves, their families, and our world. The Baby Matrix can be found at LiveTrue Books, Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble (nook) and Itunes iBookstore (IPad). Hope you enjoy and find it Informative!! ~Laura Carroll |
