PDF to MOBI with images

I've got the cover image to work, TOCs are coming out fine, and even discovered some common issues when converting PDF to html (such as escaping quotes and such, extra hyphens) and quickly correcting them. My conversions are look really nice on my Kindle App.
So after I gave myself a few pats on the back, I tried converting one of my pdfs on Graphic design. I do a lot of graphic and webdesign and therefore read a lot of books on the subject. However whenever I converted one of the pdfs to mobi, and loaded it on my Kindle App, I don't have any images in the book. Obviously a book on design is pretty much useless without the images. I looked through the Calibre settings and didn't see anything about images.
Any ideas on how I can convert books with images? thanks.

Graphic design books often use vector based illustrations - these aren't supported by the libraries Calibre uses for pdf conversion.
